Not-quite-legally distinct Joker made out of 8 suits stitched together isn’t quite as intimidating as Duane hoped.

More proof that ideas are nothing and execution is everything, because a half-competent human could have made something really out of The Party’s Over. If there were a show about a giant St. Louis detective who started moonlighting as a clown after his divorce to be more likable and collected vintage western guns for wild west quickdraw competitions AND liked to confront muggers in his squeaky clown voice with his tiny Derringer it would be the greatest show ever to watch with your parents while visiting for the holidays. It would shame Reacher.

Actually, I think the cover for Chance Powers and the Table of Death: Book One in the Chance Powers Adventure Series is a SOBER robot’s best guess at “clock stuff”. The numbers all being correct and in the right places is genuinely an impressive feat in the context of AI image generation. That Belarusian server farm was focused and on top of its game to pull off the AI magic trick that is “clock face with zero nonsense numbers”.

That blurb on the back cover:
“Written in the style of the pulp fiction novels of the past!
A realistic story featuring a detective who moonlights as a clown to make himself more likable.”
That’s just the prompt he fed ChatGPT to get this story. He didn’t even have it generate a back cover blurb.

There is an entire graduate coures of study to be pulled out of this article. It captures the intersection of several of all the most intractable social issues of the 21st century: guns, Christian fundamentalism, gang violence, AI, clowns, the incompatibility of celibacy and sanity in a sex-obsessed culture, police violence, bullying, clown violence.

Gentlemen… I think we may have witnessed whatever is the the AI version of Dr Manhattan’s thermodynamic miracle.

Somewhere in a former Soviet Republic there is a stack of servers that looked at this poor man’s prompts and intuited just how sad such a main character would be.

Did a fucking gospel clown magician accidentally teach a robot empathy?!
