Didn’t Aphex Twin do that “electronic song with a video that satirizes rap culture” thing back in like, 1997?
Nobody has ever accused Gene of being original, or creative, or a musician.
yeah! big shiny tunes!
Gene Simmons has to be one of the most obnoxious people that’s ever lived. There’s only one person in the world that I could say has a bigger ego, but I’m trying to talk less about politics these days.
If you’ve never heard it, his interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air is amazing; it’s basically just an hour of him being a pompous jerk while she goes back and forth between “I’m really trying to give you a chance to talk about the real you,” and “wow, the real you is a truly obnoxious creep.” (The whole thing can pretty much be summed up pretty well in the exchange when he tells her “If you want to welcome me with open arms, you’re also going to have to welcome me with open legs.” Or the part where he opines that if humans were monogamous, “within one or two generations, we would all be cross-eyed and retarded.”)
As a massive fan of both The Prodigy, (The Fat of the Land is in my top 5 albums) and horrible attempts of aging rock stars to seem relevant via the music video (See Sting’s video for “I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Cryin'”) I am shocked to have never heard of this.
Many group chats will be hearing about this today.
The Prodigy AND Blur in one article! The people of Essex, England salute you! Throw in a Depeche Mode and an Alison Moye and you get honourary citizenship!
I went into this article thinking it said RICHARD Simmons, which made way more sense than Gene.
I am only slightly disappointed about one thing – no mention of Keith Flint’s Firestarter stalking the underground tunnels (and the titular duo) in the Venture Brothers? That would have completed my “Oh yeah I remember that” bingo card, dammit!
