Just commenting to nitpick: while Jaws was optioned before it was published, the movie producers had read the unpublished novel and made their offer based on that, not just the concept
I guess it’s interesting that Benchley died of pulmonary fibrosis and also wrote a novel apparently full of references to lungs, breathing, O2, lung related body horror and so on. Did he already know he had a fatal lung condition when he wrote it, or was his body trying to tell him something?
