I had the Xbox 360 version and all I remember is a nearly unplayable segment where you’re trying to fight Grendel’s mother’s minions but you can barely manage to because there’s a QTE every 5 seconds to not fuck her, or the minions, or something. sounds like they kept the suck consistent across platforms

Interesting. I’m actually trying to read through ancient epics from different cultures right now. And I do plan to get to Beowulf eventually. So, thanks for the tip on the Maria Dahvana Headley translation. I’ll be sure to pick that one up!

And don’t be too hard on yourself about your degree. English literature is valuable and worth studying. You have enriched yourself as a person by doing so. The things you learned are important and still valuable in today’s society.

Just to throw in a plug for a version I really enjoyed: Bea Wolf by Boulet and Zach Weinersmith moves the story to modern times, with the titular fierce young girl uniting the children of the neighborhood to pillage their suburb and fill their long tree house with loot. Its enjoyable on its own, but if you know the original well, there’s a ton of references and Easter eggs. They even managed to mimic the alliteration and poetic descriptions pretty well. (And no crustaceans of any kind. )
